Ever wonder how students identify what matters in their community and design meaningful, standards-aligned projects? This 1- to 3-day workshop shares a clear planning process for turning ideas into high-impact, place-based projects while honoring cultural ways of knowing. Educators leave with a community-centered project plan that integrates inquiry, culture, and standards while building leadership, creativity, and critical thinking.

Join us for a transformative 3-day workshop exploring foundations of liberation and decolonization, the power of Place-based Learning, and strategies for sustainable implementation. Educators will engage in inclusive, culturally responsive practices that center diverse voices and community knowledge. By the end, participants leave with practical tools and project-based lesson plans to decolonize curricula and liberate teaching practices in their own contexts.

This one-day workshop invites educators to examine how and why they partner with communities while using PbLPath’s Project Planning Tool to develop a Community Asset Map. Participants reflect on assumptions and historical context to strengthen place-based design and build more intentional relationships with students, families, and community partners. Educators leave with a completed Community Asset Map to support more responsive, community-centered projects.

This 1–3 day workshop (based on goals) explores how Place-based Learning boosts college student engagement and success through coursework rooted in real-world and community contexts. Participants design community- and client-based projects aligned to learning outcomes that build communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. The workshop concludes with a draft course outline and syllabus centered on a high-impact place-based project.

This workshop aligns with the Project Planner.

This immersive workshop guides educators through discovering local narratives, weaving them into a collective story, and bringing community stories to life through Place-based Learning. Participants explore the narratives embedded in their local environments to deepen students’ understanding of place, history, and culture. By the end, educators leave with a completed community story map ready for classroom integration.

This workshop helps educators transform standards into an asset by building a blueprint for connected, place-based learning. Participants use Indigenous knowledge, academic, and cultural standards to create a year-long, integrated, transdisciplinary learning map responsive to student and community needs. Educators leave with a visual planning tool ready to share with key stakeholders.
